Alexander Sheena
TULANE
Hey I’m Alex! I’m studying Finance and Neuroscience at Tulane, and when I heard about Heart4Heart I knew I had to start a chapter at Tulane. Congenital heart disease doesn’t get enough attention, and the preventative surgeries are actually relatively inexpensive. Heart4Heart does a great job of providing donors with a specific project that they can see their money going towards, which I think is an important, and yet generally lacking feature of a lot of charities. Also, since the surgeries aren’t the most expensive it’s really gratifying to be able to see the tangible impact we are having on these children’s lives. I’m very excited to spread awareness about CHD and fundraise for these surgeries.

Hey, I’m Avery! I am a sophomore studying Environmental Biology at Tulane University. I grew up in White River Junction, Vermont where I loved to ski, play saxophone, and play soccer. A big part of the reason why I joined Heart4Heart was the knowledge that we as an organization could provide genuine help for children who truly need it. The surgeries that we provide to children with CHD have a huge impact on their lives and that is something I think is really special.

They are eternally grateful for your help to heal Rhean’s heart.
Current Project: Valery
Sweet Valery was born with a hole in her heart known as a Ventricular Septal Defect. She was born in a Bolivian city that sits at 13,000 feet in the Andes Mountains making it even more difficult than normal for her to breathe. She is not able to breast feed since she just does not have the energy and she sweats profusely. Valery has been taking medication to control her cardiac symptoms since she was 1 month old. Her parents struggle to pay for the medicine so they have had to borrow money to cover the cost of her medication and frequent visits to the hospital. Valery has a 12 year old sister who worries about her. Her father drives taxi to support the family but his car broke down recently so now he is out of work due to a lack of funds to repair the car. Valery’s family is anxious to have her heart healed soon. They are very grateful for your help in raising funds to help provide Valery with hope for a healthy future.
Current Project: Gabriel
Gabriel lives on an island in the southern region of The Philippines with his mother and older sister. He was born with a heart condition known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus and requires a catheterization procedure to correct the defect. This family struggles to have enough food and basic necessities. On top of that, Gabriel takes five different medications which are an additional struggle for this family. The common-law husband of Gabriel’s mother does his best to help the family but he only earns $60 USD per month as a laborer and much of that is used to buy Gabriel’s medicine. This family is so grateful for your help in raising funds to heal Gabriel’s little heart. They look forward to the day when some of the financial burden will be lifted and they can watch Gabriel play and grow without difficulty.
Current Project: Raingel
Raingel lives on an island in the southern region of The Philippines with her parents and older sister. She was born with a heart condition known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus and requires a catheterization procedure to correct the defect. Raingel has struggled with health issues since birth and her parents have spent most of the little money they have on transportation to and from clinics and hospitals. Raingel was not able to breastfeed as a baby since it required too much energy. This family has been searching for an angel to provide them with assistance to help heal their daughter’s heart. Current Project: Daisy Rei
Daisy Rei lives with her parents, older brother and twin sister on an island in The Philippines. At an early age, her parents noticed that she was very different from her twin in that she did not reach milestones at the same pace and did not have the same energy. They also noticed that she was ill frequently and took a long time to recover. Daisy Rei was diagnosed with a heart condition known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus when she was 3 years old. Her parents were told that she needed medication but after struggling to pay for it, they stopped buying it after about one year. Last year, Daisy Rei had difficulty breathing and had heart palpitations so her parents rushed her to the hospital where they were told she not only needed the medication but also needed a catheterization procedure which they could not afford. This family is eternally grateful for your support in helping to heal their daughter’s heart.
Current Project: Denise
Beautiful Denise lives with her family on a island in the Southern Philippines. Denise has been relatively healthy until recently when she was often not feeling well and did not have the same energy she used to. After several check-ups at a local clinic, Denise’s parents were told that she had a heart condition known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus and she would need a heart catheterization to correct the defect in her heart. Her parents were very worried and did not know what to do since they have never left the island they live on and were told that there is no treatment of this kind on the island. They also understand that the cost of such a procedure is far beyond their means. They are so very grateful for your support and look forward to taking Denise to Manila for her lifesaving treatment.
Current Project: Nicole
Sweet Nicole lives with her parents and two older sisters on a small island in the Southern Philippines. Her father works as a tricycle driver to transport people in the area where they live. He earns about $5 per day on a busy day. Nicole’s mother stays home to care for the children. Therefore, on such a small income, this family struggles to provide the most basic necessities to survive. When they were told that Nicole had a heart condition known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus which would require them to leave the island and travel to Manila where she would undergo a heart catheterization, they had no idea how they would fund saving their daughter’s life. They do not have any relatives or friends who could help so they sent out a plea for assistance. They are so grateful for your efforts to help heal Nicole’s little heart. They look forward to having her healthy and
watching her grow and play with her sisters.

His parents worry about him everyday knowing that he needs to have heart surgery to heal his heart but that this type of procedure is way beyond their means. All they want is for their precious son to be happy and healthy. They are so very grateful for your sponsorship of a diagnostic catheterization which will provide the surgeons with important information needed to perform his life-saving surgery.
