Current Project: Rayan

Rayan was born with a hole in his heart known as a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). He is a happy and playful boy who lives with his family in a humble dwelling outside of Cairo, Egypt. Rayan has been ill many times in his short life due to his heart condition. He always wants to run and play but gets tired so quickly that he must stop and sit down to catch his breath. His parents worry about him everyday knowing that he needs to have heart surgery to heal his heart but that this type of procedure is way beyond their means. All they want is for their precious son to be happy and healthy. They are so very grateful for your sponsorship of a diagnostic catheterization which will provide the surgeons with important information needed to perform his life-saving surgery.

Current Project: Denzrick

Denzrick was born with a hole in his heart known as a Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). He was first diagnosed at 7 months old and has been living with his heart condition ever since. At times, the pain in his chest is unbearable and he will grab his chest and cry out. He is not able to run and play with his sibling and friends because he does not have the energy to do so. He tires very easily and gasps for his next breath.

Despite his heart condition, Denzrick is a cheerful pre-teen who is in the sixth grade at school. He is a caring older brother to his sister. His parents are very concerned about their son and look forward to the day when he is no longer in pain and will be able to run and play like other children his age.

Current Project: Dishawn

Dishawn was born with a hole in his heart known as an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). He describes living with ASD as very challenging to breathe; as if he is drowning at times. He is sad that his heart defect limits his ability to engage in sports. Instead, he often must sit on the sidelines and watch while his friends play. He just does not have the energy and finds himself out of breath very quickly when he tries to join in.

Dishawn has taken to gaming instead of sports since this does not require physical activity and is still something he enjoys. He aspires to be a Sales Engineer or work in the Technology Industry when he finishes school. Dishawn lives with his mother and is very close with his siblings. He looks forward to brighter days ahead when his heart will be healed.

Current Project: Kevon

Kevon is an enthusiastic young boy who loves football. Unfortunately, his heart condition limits his physical ability to play sports. Shortly after birth, he turned blue. After further examination, doctors discovered that he was born with a heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). Tetralogy of Fallot is a combination of four congenital heart defects that affect infants and children. The defects occur together and change the way blood flows through the heart and lungs. Kevon also has a second heart defect known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) which is a persistent opening between the two major blood vessels leading from the heart. A large, untreated PDA can let oxygen-poor blood move the wrong way. This can weaken the heart muscle, cause heart failure and other complications. Kevon and his mom look forward to having his heart healed so he can feel healthy for the first time in his life.

Current Project: Nathan

Nathan is a playful baby boy from Kingston, Jamaica. He loves music, playing with toys and playing with his siblings. Shortly after birth, the doctors noticed Nathan’s unusually fast breathing. After further examination, they heard a heart murmur and diagnosed him with AVSD - Atrial Ventricular Septal Defect. Septal defects are holes in the wall of the heart that separates the left and right sides. Nathan has one between the Atrium (top two chambers) and another hole between the Ventricles (bottom two chambers). A Diagnostic Catheterization procedure will help surgeons have a closer look at what needs to be done during the surgical repair of Nathan’s heart.

Nathan’s mother hopes that her son’s heart can be healed soon so that he can feel better, grow and live a normal life. Having her son healthy would also provide her the opportunity to go back to work. Right now she stays home to care for him and make sure he is okay.
